UPDATE FROM T’AGWAN REPRESENTATIVES – April 7, 2020

RE: UPDATE FROM T’AGWAN REPRESENTATIVES

Dear Haida citizens,

Vanessa and I had intended on having a reporting out session last month, soon after we returned from the Winter Session. We made the attempt to reschedule to April 15, however, with the crisis at hand, we are unable to have a physical reporting out session.

We are aware that the biggest question at hand for all citizens is the support that Urban citizens will receive.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this. Unfortunately, for us all, the virus limits our abilities to physically help people right now.

Vanessa and I are working, and are in discussion, with our Nation’s leaders and others on how we can best support our Urban communities. We are aware of the federal government’s announcements on funding to First Nations communities and Urban members and are looking into whether we can access that.

If there are any other programs that you may know of that we may be able to look into, please contact one of us and we will do our very best to research and respond.

For the time being, Vanessa and I will continue to share links to resources personally, and they will also be posted to the Council of the Haida Nation website COVID-19 page under “Community Announcements.”

Please share with others who might not see online postings.

Your patience and understanding with our limits are greatly appreciated!

Stay safe!
