Welcome
There is little doubt that ocean conditions are changing. At the same time we are seeing new marine uses
and emerging resource conflicts, and we need to start planning for our marine future. This forum is an
opportunity to bring forward ideas on ways to improve the health of Haida Gwaii's surrounding ocean
and economy — it is a way to not only size up the waves but also the conditions that we are paddling out into.
Local and international experts will be on hand to talk about traditional, commercial and recreational
fisheries and ways to market fish products. But the forum is not just about fish! It is a place to learn and
share your ideas about cruise ships, offshore energy, marine education, shipping and transportation,
and ecotourism.
The forum kicks off on the evening of January 22nd with an art show opening and reception at Kaay Llnagaay
then on January 23 and 24 we come together to engage in the issues, be it transportation, oil and gas, or
opportunities that will contribute to a local economy.
