Committees make recommendations to the Executive Committee and
operate under House of Assembly policies. The CHN President and
Vice-President are ex-officio members of all Committees and have
divided the work into portfolios, half of which each the President
and Vice-President hold.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
This committee conducts the affairs of the CHN between regular sittings and is accountable tothe full council. It also makes recommendations to the CHN quarterly meetings. The executivecommittee consists of the CHN president, vice-president, one regional representative fromSkidegate, and one from Massett.

FORESTRY COMMITTEE
This committee reviews reports on activity in the forests and makes recommendations to the executive committee on what actions to take. It also sets priorities for the Haida Heritageand Forest Guardians.

FISHERIES COMMITTEE
This committee deals with political issues such as sports fishing, the quota system for salmon allocations, razor clams, the communal license issues and responding to DFO fisheries policies. The committee’s role is to make recommendations to the Council of the Haida Nation.

HAIDA MARINE WORK GROUP
The Haida Marine Work Group (HMWG) is responsible for identifying Haida marine priorities and important cultural and ecolgoical areas to inform a marine use plan for Haida Gwaii. The Work Group is directed by the CHN with input from a First Nations Governance Committee and supported by the Haida Oceans Technical Team (HOTT).

LANDS AND WATER COMMITTEE
This committee monitors land-leasing activity, reviews proposals and makes recommendations to the executive committee regarding permit applications for doing business on the Islands, ie: alternative energy, mining, oil and gas. It also monitors foreshore applications and reviews land use planning recommendations.

ARCHEOLOGY/HERITAGE COMMITTEE
This Committee studies and makes recommendations to the CHN on all
archeological sites and ancestral remains as they are unearthed by natural
forces or by industrial/ commercial activities on Haida Gwaii. It also reviews
reports on areas of the forest in which culturally modified trees are found.

This committee works on raising funds for important but under funded CHN
programs and projects. Fundraising is a constant struggle, and creative
individuals are encouraged to join this Committee.

TRI-COUNCIL ECONOMIC COMMITTEE
This committee is creating an economic development plan for the Haida Nation. It is also a coordinating body, which reviews and makes recommendations on business proposals and plans submitted to the CHN. Chairing of the meetings rotates.

HAIDA NEGOTIATION and RECONCILIATION TEAM
The Haida Negotiation Team makes recommendations to the CHN, the All Leaders
Process, and House of Assembly. It takes steps to regain Haida authority over Haida Gwaii and surrounding waters through negotiations with Provincial and Federal governments, and focuses on topics such as lands, forests, offshore issues and economics. The Team is directed by the CHN, the All Leaders Process, and the House of Assembly.

Oversees Title Case and develops strategic approaches. Makes logistical

The Creative Teams and Mapping Teams are sub-committees of the Litigation Team.

CREATIVE TEAM
This Team researches and reviews recommendations provided by the
Litigation Team as well as any other work relevant to the Title Case.
Not all members attend all meetings, participants are determined by the
agenda items. From time to time others people and resources are requested
to attend depending upon agenda needs.
