To All Weyerhaeuser Employees and Contractors

An "Association of Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands Forest Workers" has been formed.

The association supports initiatives by island forest workers that promote a healthy island economy, sustainable communities and prosperous island businesses and industries.

It has become increasingly clear that Weyerhaeuser has no commitment to us as employees and residents of Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands. At the same time it is equally obvious that this company’s whole focus is to harvest the highest quality of timber at the lowest possible cost at the highest possible rate of cut.

This will severely compromise the future of our island communities.
This will lead to :
- a continual decrease of island employment.
- decreased industrial and business opportunities.
- a further degradation to the island environment.
This will also lead us into direct conflict with the Council of the Haida Nation.

If you share these concerns about our future the "Association of Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands Forest Workers" will be a voice for change.

By joining this association we have an immediate opportunity to initiate a very strong statement in conjunction with the Council of the Haida Nation in the up coming court challenge on June 6, 2002, where Weyerhaeuser has challenged part of the March 6th court decision to consult and accommodate the Haida’s concerns regarding T.F.L. 39 Block 6.
