ISLANDS BULLETIN NO. 15

April 21, 2005

To All Islands People;

INTERESTING FACT: Some people have never stood up for something they believe in.

TEAM HOME FRIDAY
The Negotiating Team will be home Friday, April 22 and they will be attending the Benefit dinner to give an update on their discussions with the Province. Also speaking at the dinner will be MP Nathan Cullen and Gary Coons who is running for the NDP in the Provincial election. Come out and support your neighbours. The Italian dinner and loonie toonie auction is a family event and the dance will go until 2 am. See posters for details.

SPARKS
Don’t forget that Thursday, that’s tonight, singer songwriter Ryan Bresser will be performing at the Honna Line with Roy Yalte at 7:30 pm. They will be at the Yakoun Line on Saturday, 1:00 pm. Come down to the Lines and enjoy some time with your neighbours and listen to some great music.

OFF-ISLAND SUPPORT
There have been many demonstrations of support for Islands Spirit Rising over this past month. They have come in letters, phone calls, emails and public demonstrations. The issues that we have brought up through this action have resonated widely and touched many people in similar
situations throughout North American and into Europe and South America.

Today, people came out in Seattle and Toronto, Winnipeg and New York to express their support for this cause. And at the annual meeting of stockholders in Seattle, in a unprecedented move Weyerhaeuser changed their meeting format from an open-mike question and answer period to a process of written questions that would be controlled by the Chair and CEO Stephen Rogel. We assume this change in format was imposed to avoid difficult questions about Weyerhaeuser’s track record with communities and First Nations.

In the QCI Observer today, there is a story of a coalition sending a letter of support to Premier Campbell. We thank the signers for their support.
