| ISLANDS BULLETIN NO. 9 April 1, 2005 ISLANDS SPIRIT RISING GWAII SGAANAWAAY SIIGAA IIJAA To all Islands people, INTERESTING FACT The lease held by Weyerehaueser for the Ferguson Bay Dryland Sort expired in November of last year. The Living and Learning School in Queen Charlotte is visiting the Honna Line today and are going to do a survey of people on the line to learn about why people are there. The Grade nine/ten Haida class, which includes both Haida and non-Haida students, will be at the line today as well. They have read all the bulletins to inform themselves of the situation and will be asking questions of people on the Line. HOUSE KEEPING As requested by coordinators and camp supervisors good camp etiquette has been drafted and will be available at the camps in the next few days. One point from the etiquette is, dont be shy, introduce yourself to at least one person. More comfort at the camps - Porta-Potties are in place as well as outhouses, he ha! Look for the Islands Spirit Rising dragonfly card available for storefronts and car windows. They will be in camps shortly, pick one up and display prominently. Show your support. The provincial health inspector has visited both camps and a set of guidelines has been left with Islands Spirit Rising. These will be posted at both ends for your information. With the camps becoming more established and settled, guidelines are needed for our own health and safety. Everyone at the checkpoints and in the camps are doing a great job. Even MLA Bill Belsey thinks so, when talking about his visit to the Yakoun Camp he said, They were very respectful, and very friendly I was thrilled I had the time to go over there, I really enjoyed it! WHATS HAPPENING OUT THERE The word of Islands Spirit Rising has spread and so has the support from people off-Island. A woman attending the University of Victoria had a bannock and bake sale on campus to support Islands Spirit Rising. She raised $741.90 and has deposited it in the credit union. There are so many people out there doing things like this to support us. Also a woman from Germany has written a very nice letter of support, the whole letter can be viewed on the web at www.haidanation.ca or check the binder in camp. Today from Indian Country, a National Aboriginal newspaper in the US: One law takes precedence over everything, and that is respect for this place and for each other.
