Haida Gwaii, also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, is located off the northwestern shores of the province of British Columbia. Over 150 islands comprise Haida Gwaii stretched north to south approximately 250 km, and less than 100 km east to west. Two main islands make up most of the length of Haida Gwaii: Graham in the north and Moresby Island to the south.

According to the 2001 census, Haida Gwaii is home to approximately 5,000 people, primarily living in seven population centers. On Graham Island there are six communities: Masset, Old Massett, Port Clements, Tlell, Skidegate, and Queen Charlotte City (QCC). Sandspit is located on north Moresby Island. All communities fall within the Skeena-Queen Charlotte Regional District.

Services in all communities are fairly limited. The majority of services are available in the two largest communities (QCC and Masset) including: two high schools, hospitals, and banking facilities. The communities of Masset, Old Massett and Port Clements are also working together to secure funding for new hospital facilities for the north end of Graham Island.

On arrival in Sandspit a 20 minute ferry serves to connect the village with the other six communities on Graham Island, crossing from Alliford Bay to Skidegate Landing. The Graham Island communities are located along 140 km of paved highway from QCC in the South to Old Massett and Tow Hill in the north

When coming off the ferry head north on Highway 16 for about five minutes and take a right turn into Skidgate, the CHN office is located at 133 Front Street.
