A TIME FOR EXTREME CARE, KINDNESS AND CAUTION

Xaayda laas, this bulletin is to notify Haida citizens and citizens of Haida Gwaii that we have received a self-reported case of COVID-19 on the Islands. “Self-reported” means that one of our good people has notified officials that they have tested positive for COVID-19. Yesterday, Northern Health issued a notice of possible exposure at Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay Secondary School.

  • Continue to observe the Haida Gwaii State of Emergency COVID-19 measures and stay tuned for updates and bulletins <haidanation.ca>

  • Until February 5, a Provincial Health order limits all events, social gatherings, travel, etc. This is in addition to the Haida Gwaii State of Emergency and it may be extended beyond this date <www2.gov.bc.ca>

  • Until February 5, watch closely for notices about school exposures and take extra care to monitor your child(ren) for symptoms as per Northern Health advice <northernhealth.ca>

Know the symptoms of COVID-19 and self-monitor for signs (go to bccdc.ca). If you show any symptoms, however mild, you must call your Primary Care Provider or the Northern Health Virtual Clinic: 1.844.645.7811

Haawahaw’aa to the brave person who has come forward. Limiting the spread of COVID-19 on Haida Gwaii is everyone’s responsibility. We all have to do our part to keep ourselves, our loved ones and Haida Gwaii safe.

Follow your local EOCs and the Council of the Haida Nation for updated information.

Kil ‘láa kind words.
