STRONG MINDS, STRONG NATION
The Council of the Haida Nation is awarding $12,000 worth of bursaries to support young Haida citizens starting post-secondary. Bursaries are awarded to students in these fields of study:
Stewardship
Do you love being outdoors and have a passion for balance and sustainability? The stewardship bursary is for you!
Trades
Do you have an interest in building, mechanics, cooking or hairstyling? Skilled trades are your niche, and this bursary can support you!
Information Technology & Communications
Is storing, receiving, sending information and networking your forte? Are you a graphic designer, language learner, writer, artist or any other type of communicator? This bursary is perfect for you!
Governance & Administration
Do you love numbers, organizing and good governance? Apply for this bursary if you are studying Finance, Business Administration, Indigenous Studies, or Political Science!
HOW TO APPLY
Email CHN a short video (maximum 2 minutes) or a short essay (maximum 500 words) describing what you are studying and why. Be sure to include which of the bursaries above you are eligible for.
SUBMIT BY: July 14, 2022 at 4:30pm
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicants must be of Haida ancestry
- Applicants must be a Grade 12 student entering their first year of post-secondary school.
- Bursaries will be awarded once students submit a post-secondary acceptance letter.
Taawga hala leeyga May Russ Memorial Bursary
The Council of the Haida Nation has created the Taawga hala leeyga May Russ Memorial Bursary in loving memory of our dear Hereditary Chief, friend, and colleague, Taawga hala leeyga. Taawga hala leeyga was an instrumental leader with the CHN, dedicating nearly 20 years of her life to Administration for the Haida Nation. A $2,000 bursary will be offered to a female student who is continuing education at a college or university. This bursary is not specific to a field of study – any young female leader is encouraged to apply.
HOW TO APPLY
Submit a short video (maximum 2 minutes) or essay (maximum 500 words) explaining your educational goals, the field you are going into and why. Include Taawga hala leeyga Memorial Bursary in the subject line.

ELIGIBILITY
- Applicants must be of Haida ancestry
- Demonstrated leadership role(s) within the Haida Nation
- The bursary will be awarded when the successful application submits a post-secondary acceptance letter.
SELECTION
- A selection committee will be formed to choose the successful applicant.
Lisa Edwards Memorial Bursary
The Council of the Haida Nation has created the Lisa Edwards Memorial Bursary in loving memory of our dear friend and colleague, Lisa Edwards. Lisa was an integral part of the CHN, dedicating over 20 years of her life to the Finance Department. A $1,000 bursary will be offered to a student who is continuing their education at a college or university, studying in the areas of Business Administration or Finance.

- The bursary will be awarded when the successful application submits a post-secondary acceptance letter.
SELECTION
- A selection committee will be formed to choose the successful applicant.
