Derek White is heading for the Arctic

The Students on Ice (SOI) Foundation is an organization offering unique ship and land-based expeditions for youth to the Arctic and Antarctic. Their goal is to provide students with a transformative experience in one of the most fascinating, wild and awe-inspiring places on Earth.  

In October 2017, during the closing celebrations for the C3 expedition that visited Haida Gwaii, Students on Ice Foundation Founder and Executive Director Geoff Green announced that a spot would be made available for a Haida youth on future Students on Ice expeditions.   

Over the last few months, Gwaii Haanas (Parks Canada and Haida Nation) has promoted the 2018 Students on Ice opportunity for a Haida student to participate in this year’s expedition. The opportunity was promoted in both high schools on Haida Gwaii. We’re proud to announce that Derek White from Gaw Old Massett will be going to explore the Arctic alongside more than 100 youth from across Canada. The 2018 Expedition takes place July 23 – August 7.
