Flag Raising at GuuhlG̲a

On March 11 at 10 am, Haida citizens, BC Ferries staff and invited guests gathered at a small ceremony organized by Skidegate Band Council and BC Ferries in raising the Haida Nation flag at GuuhlGa Skidegate Landing BC Ferries Terminal. 

Starting with an opening prayer by GwaaGanad Diane Brown, she opened the ceremony with a welcome from Kilslaay Chief Wiigaanad | SGiidagiids Sid Crosby. Speeches were made by co-hosts Desi Collinson, CHN HlGaagilda Representative and Billy Yovanovich, SBC Chief Councillor, along with President of the Haida Nation, Gaagwiis, Mayor of Daajing Giids, Lisa Pineault and President of BC Ferries,  Nicolas Jimenez. 

The flag raising included singing by youth from GidGalang Kuuyas Naay Secondary School and few singers from Hltaaxuulang Gud ad K’aajuu. 

Followed the ceremony at the BC Ferries terminal, refreshments and snacks were provided at the Naagudgiikyagangs Skidegate Small Hall.
