Hot pools filling at G̱andll K’in Gwaay.yaay (Hotspring Island)!

Hot water is flowing again at Gandll K’in Gwaay.yaay Hotspring Island! The thermal pools, located in Gwaii Haanas Haida Heritage Site and National Park Reserve, dried up following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake which rattled Haida Gwaii in late 2012.

In 2013 Parks Canada scientists discovered hot water seeps above ground but below the high tide line near two of the pools. And this week, a Gwaii Haanas crew, returning from a reconnaissance trip to SGang Gwaay, discovered near-full pools and a strong flow of the mineral-rich hot water.
