HOURS: Shift Work (1 week on 1 week off)
SALARY: $31.91 – 33.18
DESCRIPTION
Under the direct supervision of the Protected Areas Program Manager theCFI Crew Technician (certified) is responsible for conducting cultural field surveys with relation to Haida Land Values, Archaeology, and Forest Ecology as it relates to Haida Culture, the Land Use Objectives Order, and Cultural Feature Identification Standards.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting and supervising cultural field surveys with relation to Haida Land Values, Archaeology, and Forest Ecology as it relates to the Haida Culture & Law, the Land Use Objectives Order, and Cultural Feature Identification.
- Able to accurately read field maps, plan survey routes, and map survey results.
- Ensure effective data gathering, data entry, quality control and reporting.
- Ensure SHN safety policies and OH&S safety requirements are met and being followed.
- Maintain data collection and data log-in, report documentation.
- Ensure crew and equipment are prepared prior to the start of field work.
- Attend training as required.
- Other duties as required by the Protected Areas Program Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have knowledge and understanding of Haida laws, traditions, and values.
- Knowledge of forest resource management issues and geography of Haida Gwaii.
- Minimum of one season of experience in an indigenous organization with field survey training and having successfully attained certification for Cultural Feature Identification.
- Capable of accurate field traversing and field survey work and reporting.
- Demonstrate sound communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to prioritize and problem solve.
- Have a basic understanding of standard office practices and work experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and other related programs.
- Must have good understanding of procedures of the CHN and SHN.
- Must have a good understanding of the Haida Constitution, Haida Accord, and other agreements, such as the Kunst’aa Guu Kunst’aayah, Gwaii Haanas, Land Use Order Objectives, Stewardship Law, and Cultural Features Identification.
- Must have knowledge of the relationships between CHN, Hereditary Chiefs Council, Village Councils, and other associated organizations.
- Have the ability to maintain order within an environment of changing priorities.
- Practice sound management, accept responsibility and achieve positive results through self-motivation and the promotion of teamwork.
- Must have the ability to work well under pressure in order to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to travel to various locations on Haida Gwaii for meetings throughout the year.
- Must be medically and physically fit to assume the responsibilities of the position.
- Certifications in Wilderness First Aid, ROCM, Bear Aware, SVOP, MEDA3, OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement and OH& S Level 1.
- Must have a valid B.C. driver’s license.
