Communications and Culture Director

Salary range $99,335 – $103,303, Full-time

Reporting to the Executive Director or their designate, the Director of Communications and Culture is a senior management position accountable and responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating strategy and delivering comprehensive programs and services related to CHN Communications and Culture internally and externally. In addition, the Director fulfils a similar role regarding Culture.


  • Direct and oversee all staff and resources within directorship, services and programs assigned, ensuring that strategic direction is operationalized. 
  • Work collaboratively with Senior Staff and provide information, support, and strategic advice to the Executive Director to support the SHN’s strategic goals in the areas under their purview.
  • Provide advice and input to the Executive Director on existing, developing and emerging issues. Budgeting and planning processes, ensuring accurate and effective reporting of information and experience to inform the decision-making process. 
  • Ensure administrative functions are required to implement and maintain operational programs and services. Demonstrate effective management of human, financial and information resources;
  • Develop, implement and monitor effective policies and procedures;
  • other duties as directed


  • Degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Haida Governance, laws and cultural values;
  • Excellent and proven written and verbal communication skills and computer skills with at least five years’ experience in communications and related fields. 
  • Experience in project and financial management, personal management with a proven track record of meeting deadlines and budgets, reporting compliance and grant writing, mentorship, and leadership;
  • Demonstrated strategic capacity adaptability, creativity, innovation and team building
  • At least five years of experience managing communications/culture, with demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic direction and project management.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Must be willing to travel when required
