Reports to: Communications Manager
Wage Classification: Program Coordination and Administration
Wage: $26.82 – $30.17

Summary:
The Engagement Coordinator leads the communications, public relations and community engagement activities and programs for the Council of the Haida Nation. As part of a government organization, this position provides an opportunity for an experienced communications specialist seeking the opportunity to move into a lead role.

The Engagement Coordinator will support the Communications Department to reach its goals and support the existing program to increase citizen engagement and develop and implement effective print and digital communications.

This position will work to enhance the visibility of the Haida Nation, share its stories, and advance its priorities, ensuring that communication efforts reflect the values of Haida tradition, knowledge, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Internal + External Communications
  • Support internal communications to ensure Haida citizens and CHN staff are informed of key initiatives, governance updates, and community events.
  • Responsible for planning, developing and producing all internal and external CHN communications systems and products, ensuring high quality communications, consistency, and accuracy of content.
  • In collaboration with Communications Program staff, develop storyboards for CHN communications requirements, including Haida Laas, website, podcasts, videos, and any/all other media channels and edit all content for approval.
  1. Communications + Engagement Plan
  • Draft feature articles, session and HoA summaries, briefings, summaries, bulletins, reports, news releases, and other products as required.
  • Create an annual Communications and Engagement work plan that complements and enhances the organization’s priorities and includes fulfilment of key accountability and reporting functions.
  • Develops strategic communications plans, in collaboration with the Manager / Director, and ensures effective implementation and adaptation to meet core objectives of CHN.
  1. Citizen Engagement + Event Support
  • Develops and/or delivers effective engagement opportunities to Haida citizens, as needed.
  • Attend event planning meetings and identify key communications outputs.
  • As well as support the set-up of audio and visual equipment at events.
  1. Branding + Reputation
  • Builds and promotes the Haida Nation’s brand and reputation through quality assurance on all print and online communications.
  • Identifies and assesses emerging issues and develops strategies for proactive and reactive communications.
  • Provides input and assists in overseeing the CHN website(s), posting information in a timely manner, and supporting digital strategies for growth and relevancy online.
  1. Relationship Growing
  • Provide effective leadership for Communications Program staff and facilitate teamwork in order to enhance the goals and services provided for the CHN through the Communications Program.
  • Maintains media relations, managing proactive and reactive media relations.
  • Cultivates and maintains productive relationships with all levels of government, communications counterparts, and external partners.
