Description:
The Sergeant-at-Arms plays a vital role in ensuring the security, order, and smooth functioning of the election process. The individual(s) will be responsible for overseeing the protection of voting stations, safeguarding election materials, and ensuring compliance with all election protocols. This position requires a strong sense of integrity, the ability to manage conflict, and the capacity to act quickly in emergency situations.
Qualifications:
- Previous electoral experience is beneficial.
- Ability to work long hours, multitask, and handle various situations calmly and efficiently.
- Experience in security, strong conflict management and resolution skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergency situations with a clear head.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of election processes and protocols (preferred but not required).
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure Security: Maintain security at all voting stations and storage areas for election materials. Ensure voters and personnel comply with election rules. Manage any disturbances or security issues that arise in a firm yet respectful manner.
- Protection of Election Materials: Safeguard ballots, election equipment, and any confidential documents throughout the election process. Monitor access and ensure only authorized individuals are present.
- Emergency Response: Act swiftly and effectively in the event of emergencies or disruptions to ensure the election process is not compromised.
- Communication: Collaborate with electoral staff, including the Head Electoral Officer, to ensure smooth communication and coordination during the election.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Regional Electoral Officer (REO).
Working Conditions:
- Hours and Environment:
- Long workdays, typically 15 hours, starting early and ending late.
- Meal breaks are provided, but the Sergeant at arms needs to stay on site.
- Physical Requirements:
- Standing for long periods and lifting to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable footwear is recommended.
