Fisheries Field Technician
Title: Fisheries Field Technician
Type: Full time, 35-40 hours per week from May to August 2025.
Location: Based in Skidegate.
Salary: $23.32 – $26.23 per hour based on experience.
Description of work
Under the direction of the Salmon Biologist and Operations Supervisor, the Field Technician will collect and record biological field data and operate small vessels and machinery as needed (such as outboard motors, generators and water pumps). Duties will include the enumeration and identification of adult salmon at fence structures and/or juvenile salmonids at traps. Additionally, the Fisheries Technician will assist in ongoing Haida Fisheries projects and may be involved in biological sampling, recreational fisheries monitoring, assisting Haida Guardians, and maintaining gear.
This position will likely require working on boats, working overtime, and on weekends. Assisting on overnight shifts to enumerate Sockeye Salmon at Copper Bay will be likely.
Candidates are required to have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. An SVOP and boating experience would be considered an asset. Training will be provided to the successful candidate.
Qualifications & Assets
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
- An SVOP and boating experience is an asset, but not required
- Able to work overnight shifts, willing to work overtime and on weekends
- Knowledge of the biology of Pacific Salmon
- Comfortable working around water (docks, boats, rivers)
- Reliable
- Effective interpersonal skills
