Marine Spatial Analyst

$41.52 per hour based on experience and education, Full-time 35-40 hrs. per week

DESCRIPTION

The Marine Spatial Planner provides technical support for management and monitoring of Haida marine territories, with a focus on ocean mapping and spatial data analysis. The Marine Spatial Analyst also supports other Marine Planning Program (MPP) initiatives as assigned.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop database of bathymetric data to support existing CHN marine spatial data. 
  • Develop data collection protocols to support the development of monitoring plans and field programs 
  • Produce geospatial deliverables and provide geospatial/GIS support for MPP initiatives as requested.    
  • Provide spatial support for oceanographic monitoring programs.
  • Support the management and maintenance of MPP geospatial database and Haida Marine Traditional Knowledge study data, recordings and transcripts, along with all relevant metadata and supporting documents
  • Assist in development of communication and outreach materials, as requested 
  • Provide support to the MPP team through training to increase awareness, access and use of various geospatial products by the MPP team.
  • Provide technical support to the Haida Marine Work Group and various multi-lateral groups and committees.
  • Other related duties as directed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS or mapping, marine or environmental planning, or a related discipline or relevant marine certifications with a minimum of five years related experience or an equivalent amount of post-secondary education and experience;
  • Knowledge of marine waters around Haida Gwaii will be an asset, as well as knowledge of Haida governance;
  • Knowledge of CHN marine planning processes and monitoring programs;
  • Experience using ArcGIS, QGIS, or other GIS software;
  • Experience in field data collection and management, particularly spatial and bathymetric data;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
