CARING IS ABOUT EACH OTHER

Since the Coronavirus was declared a pandemic, All-Island leaders have been working together to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

To date, we have all done a good job of staying home, physical distancing, respecting gathering and travel restrictions, and self-isolating on return to the Islands. Although it is becoming tiresome for many of us, these measures have paid off. We have no reported cases of infection and we are thankful for this. 

Recently we have seen plans throughout British Columbia and across Canada to loosen restrictions. Here on Haida Gwaii, All-Islands leaders are asking you to continue with care and caution and adhere to our local emergency measures. These measures are in place to protect you, your family, friends, Elders, and it is critically important to maintain, especially over the coming long weekend.

To help keep these Islands Coronavirus-free, please continue to respect and support each other, be strong, respect physical distancing and wash your hands often and well. These basic practices will help us come out the other side safe and sound.

Haida Gwaii is committed to a collaborative, community-centered response to COVID-19. A Unified Command (UC) was established to ensure all communities are coordinated and involved in local and collective responses. UC includes representatives from the Council of the Haida Nation and each Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). Skidegate and Old Massett, the North Coast Regional District, as well as the Villages of Queen Charlotte, Port Clements, and Masset all have EOCs.
