Xaayda laas, this bulletin is to notify Haida citizens and citizens of Haida Gwaii that COVID-19 positive cases are increasing on the Islands at this time. As a result of these increasing numbers, the movement of people between communities is limited to essential travel only.
The COVID-19 virus is highly contagious and is easily transmitted. It can spread in the following ways:
- Direct contact: talking, laughing (in close contact), sharing food, cigarettes, drinks, hugging and kissing, and ride sharing
- Indirect contact: when you touch a surface contaminated with the virus and then you touch your face (mouth, eyes or nose)
To reduce the transmission of COVID-19:
- Pull back your social circle to include only people you live with
- Physically distance (a minimum 2 metres / 6 feet)
- Wear a mask
- Wash your hands often
- Stay home, especially if you have symptoms
- Do not share rides in vehicles
- Do not eat / share a meal with someone outside your immediate household
IF YOU START TO FEEL SICK AND HAVE THE SYMPTOMS, HOWEVER MILD, call the Northern COVID-19 line: 1-844-645-7811. They will arrange for you to go to the hospital to get a test. Symptoms include:
· Fever · Chills · Cough · Loss of sense of smell |
· Loss of sense of taste · Difficulty breathing · Sore throat · Loss of appetite

· Extreme fatigue or tiredness · Headache · Body ache · Puking or diarrhea
