Xaayda laas, this bulletin is to notify Haida citizens and citizens of Haida Gwaii that COVID-19 positive cases are increasing on the Islands at this time. As a result of these increasing numbers, the movement of people between communities is limited to essential travel only.

The COVID-19 virus is highly contagious and is easily transmitted. It can spread in the following ways:

  • Direct contact: talking, laughing (in close contact), sharing food, cigarettes, drinks, hugging and kissing, and ride sharing
  • Indirect contact: when you touch a surface contaminated with the virus and then you touch your face (mouth, eyes or nose)

To reduce the transmission of COVID-19:

  • Pull back your social circle to include only people you live with
  • Physically distance (a minimum 2 metres / 6 feet)
  • Wear a mask
  • Wash your hands often
  • Stay home, especially if you have symptoms
  • Do not share rides in vehicles
  • Do not eat / share a meal with someone outside your immediate household

IF YOU START TO FEEL SICK AND HAVE THE SYMPTOMS, HOWEVER MILD, call the Northern COVID-19 line: 1-844-645-7811. They will arrange for you to go to the hospital to get a test. Symptoms include:

·      Loss of sense of taste

·      Difficulty breathing

It’s safe to say we have cases in pretty much every community on Island Barb, we should be prepared as if anyone who enters our 6′ bubble could be carrier, asymptomatic or otherwise… Let’s keep to our household bubble only at this time.
