Ecotourism Operator Registration Program
About
The Council of the Haida Nation, Old Massett Village Council and Skidegate Band Council are working together on commercial tourism management around Haida Gwaii to protect sensitive sites, sustain ecosystems and ensure Haida Ways of Being are upheld for present and future generations.
We require that all tour operators:
• Register as a commercial tour operator with CHN’s Haida Gwaii Ecotourism Operator Registration Program;
• Ask permission of the respective Village Councils before guided visitation to reserves (IRs);
• Follow the Haida Gwaii Pledge and other protocols on respectful visitation.
The program is part of a broader initiative to establish protocols on respectful tourism, aligned with existing protections in Gwaii Haanas and other co-managed Protected Areas around Haida Gwaii. At this time, this registration program is not intended for sports fishing lodges or fishing charters, as management considerations for commercial recreational fishing are distinct from ecotourism.

Operator Guidelines
As an ecotourism business, you have a unique opportunity to educate your staff and guests to conduct themselves in a good way while they are visiting Haida Gwaii.
