Call for Expression of Interest

The Haida Gwaii Management Council Chairperson position is now open for consideration. The Haida Gwaii Management Council is a joint decision-making body of the Haida Nation and the Province of BC. The Haida Gwaii Management Council is responsible for high-level, strategic resource management on Haida Gwaii, implementing the Land Use Objectives Order to balance cultural, environmental, and economic interests through shared decisions on forestry, conservation, and protected areas. The Haida Gwaii Management Council currently meets quarterly or as needed due to an increasing workload.

We are looking for the following qualities:

• Strong leadership skills and integrity

• Sound judgement, efficient decision-making and problem-solving skills

• Strong critical thinking and communication skills

• The ability to create to a safe space for diverse opinions and facilitates open dialogue

• Working knowledge of the logging industry and an understanding of Haida culture and people

• Willingness to devote the time required to carry out the roles and responsibilities related to the Haida Gwaii Management Council Chairperson

• Manages time effectively, can keep meetings on track and ensure that the agenda is followed
