Indigenous Guardian Dive Training

For five days this September, one of our Haida Fisheries Program divers, Aiden Adams-Moraes, took part in an Indigenous Guardian Dive Training workshop at Hakai Institute on Calvert Island. Aiden joined SCUBA divers from 5 other BC Coastal Nations to learn about different methods to monitor the health of our kelp forest ecosystems. This workshop not only expanded the divers’ skillsets and confidence, but also nurtured close connections among indigenous divers from across the coast. Many haw’aas to the organizers and instructors for all of your hard work, and to Hakai Institute, Reef Check, Kelp Rescue Initiative, WWF-Canada, and Pacific Salmon Foundation, whose generous support made this workshop possible.
