Coastal Nations Fisheries: Oceans Day Contest

For the upcoming Oceans Day on June 8, Coastal Nations Fisheries wants to hear from youth from shareholder Nations—Gitga’at, Gitxaała, Haida, Heiltsuk, Kitasoo Xai’xais, Metlakatla, Nuxalk and Wuikinuxv First Nations.

We want to know: “What does the ocean mean to you?”

We will award a winner for each category (for ages up to 12 and for ages 13 to 19) and for each region (North Coast, Central Coast and Haida Gwaii). All winners will be selected by Oceans Day, with prizes from $50 to $100!

*In your submission, please include your full name, age and your Nation.

This is how K’unya Laurie Bevan, CNF Board Chair, describes the importance of the fish and the ocean to her:

"To me, fish means culture, identity, sustenance and survival. I do this work for the sake of my children and grandchildren, and generations yet to come. I want them to understand fish and the ocean as the cornerstone of our existence."

If you have any questions about the contest, please reach out to us at info@cnflp.ca.

Good luck!
