I was deeply moved on receiving a print of Patrick’s red canoe at the July 13, 2019 repatriation ceremony for the copper that had been separated from a fallen pole at Skidegate. His passing at such a young age was a loss – and yet he left his art for us to enjoy and remember him. His print has been framed and hangs in my living room.
Before and after the ceremony, I spoke with Melva Collinson. Meeting her on two occasions was very special. She embodies the strength of youth and her proud Haida heritage. Thank you for allowing my husband and me to experience this unforgettable time on Haida Gwaii.
